school recommendation/advice for child on the spectrum

Hello everyone!
I hope to find someone who could give me some suggestions/advice/help on this topic.
My friend’s child (now 5 years old), is looking for a school for them. Until now they have been going to a small private school where they got extra support. Last year they’ve been told that their child is on the spectrum. We’ve been already thinking that that might be the case, since they haven’t been talking much, interacting with others or showing interest in most activities at school.
Luckily the classroom doesn’t have many kids so it’s not too busy (busy environments are very very overwhelming).
My friend and i found special needs schools, but they have a big number of children and when we went to 見学 it was too noisy/busy/overwhelming for my friend’s child.:(
The parents speak Japanese and English at home, but it’s difficult to determine how much they understand. They are usually very quiet and focus on their favorite books a lot.
It’s a very challenging situation for my friend and I’m worried, so I’d like to help somehow.
Thank you for reading <3.

  1. Being on the spectrum, I think if the school has small class sizes and understanding teachers, that’s a lot of help in itself.
I don’t know how far the kid is on the spectrum but if the level isn’t too far, special needs is way overkill. Stick to small class sizes.
