I have a bunch of Anki cards with vocab. I can read them but when someone uses the word out loud in a sentence, I almost never catch it unless it’s written down
Do you have *context* to go with the word? For me, context cements meaning and nuance. To provide myself this context, I’ll include as much background info as I need, ranging from just the sentence a target word was used in, to the full paragraph or conversation it was used in. The goal is to not be reliant on the specific context, so that I’ll be able to recognize the words in a variety of situations. The insane amount of context is only there to remind me if I get stuck. Otherwise, I ignore it if it’s not there.
