Itinerary Check for 2 Weeks

Hi everyone; I’m going solo in the spring, April 17th-May 1st, for about two weeks, and unsure what to do with my remaining days & if what I have planned so far is suitable.

I’m considering the JR Pass but this is dependent on what I end up doing with my remaining days because that will effect the value I get out of it 🙂

April 17th:

* Landing at Narita Airport around 2-3PM
* Narita Express into Tokyo
* Maybe squeezing in Zojo-ji Temple and then Tokyo Tower depending on energy levels — I was looking at the top deck tour.
* Staying at Hotel Century Southern Tower near Shinjuku Station

April 18th

* Breakfast at the hotel or around it
* 7:30AM-8:30AM: Meiji Jingu
* 8:30AM-10AM: Meiji Jingu Gyoen
* Really just spending 7:30-10AM around these two sites
* 10:15AM-12:45PM: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
* 1:00PM-2:15PM Harajuku
* Lunch around this area while exploring
* 2:30PM: Shibuya Sky
* Snack / wondering if I’m going to too many “see a view” type places
* 3:30PM: Hachiko Memorial Statue
* Not as committed to this
* 4:00PM-5:00PM: Hie Shrine
* 5:45PM: Shinjuku Golden Gai
* Dinner around here

April 19th:

* Breakfast at the hotel or around it
* 9AM Hamarikyu Gardens
* Kokyo Gaien National Garden
* 10AM: Imperial Palace
* East Gardens of the Imperial Palace
* Confused a bit how much access/how it works for the Imperial Palace & these gardens?
* Lunch
* 2PM National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
* Tsukishima Monja Street
* Snack or early dinner around here?
* 4:30PM TeamLab Planets
* Return to hotel/dinner if not eaten earlier

April 20th:

* 7:00AM-8:30AM: Kameido Tenjin Shrine
* Breakfast while out
* 9:30AM: Tokyo National Museum

* 5:45PM: Tokyo Skytree
* Dinner in the area?
* Sunamachi Ginza Shopping District
* browsing briefly

April 21st:

* Shinkansen to Kyoto
* Debating where to drop bags (Kyoto station?) — trying to find a hotel with a washer/dryer if possible but otherwise staying at the Gate Hotel in Kyoto Takasegawa
* Head to Saga-Arashiyama Station, procure snacks at some point
* 9:00AM: (hopefully): Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street

* 10:30AM: Kasuga-taisha

* 2:30PM: Todaiji Nigatsudo
* 3:30PM: Isuien Garden
* Willing to rearrange to allow more time before Isuien closes if it is worth it
* Train back to Kyoto

Remaining days unplanned until day of departure

Thinking about Cooking Sun Tokyo for a sushi making class or Studio Ghibli Museum before leaving since my flight on May 1st will be at 4:55PM but aware this might be too difficult/inconvenient. Staying at a ryokan for a night or two would be nice as well but again. I’ve got six days empty and then the day of departure so any suggestions for my time are welcomed!!

  1. Havnt been to Japan yet (going next year) but from my past travels id say its best not to set everything in stone by schedule. Just have a rough idea of what u wanna see and go with the flow of the day and how you feel.

  2. Kakigori is more of a summer food, so it might be a bit harder to find (especially if you were thinking from a street stall) in spring.
