Are there any apps that teach kanji in words instead of dictionary?

So every app I saw just flashes kanji with their on/kunyomi and definitions.

I’m not interested in just memorizing them, I would like to learn more kanji through learning them in words (and maybe short sentences).

Any suggestions?

  1. Kanji Tree sounds like it has what you’re looking for.
Though I don’t think the free app is available anymore.
I still use the free version I downloaded a while ago and for me it’s the best Kanji learning app.

  2. Have you looked at wanikani
It gives you radicals, Kanji and vocab or are you looking for pure vocab learning.
I know the app Kanji study has learn by reading or you can maybe use satori reader and create custom decks.

  3. I highly recommend Kanji Ninja (漢字忍者). It is great for proper stroke order, and usually quizes you with a kanji in a sentence. Recently they added reading of kanji, as well. And it’s free.

  4. I’m using [Kanji Study](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mindtwisted.kanjistudy) (Android only) which was probably the best thing for my Japanese learning. It’s basically a dictionary with a lot of functionality for kanji each word is using.

This is how my workflow looks like:

    * Encounter a new word anywhere

    * Look it up in Kanji Study

    * With one tap add it to Anki with all translations and a link back to Kanji Study for any additional information

    * If this word contain any new kanji for me, mark this kanji as “seen”

    * Go to the kanji page with one tap and also add a couple of other words with the same kanji and the same reading

All of this you can do even in the free version
