Get a cheap safety razor, test different blades ( I use the Japanese brand Feather).
If you like it then you can invest in some quality equipment. No dollar shaving club or using plastic stuff anymore.
I’ve done the safety razor route, and the cheap razor route, and I keep coming back to Gillette Fusion. The safety razor is a great shave (and I’ll second the Feather blades), but it’s somewhat tedious and I just don’t have the patience/concentration for it early in the morning. If you like a nice slow shave ‘experience’ then yeah, they rule. On the flip side, the cheap razors always rough up my skin or nick me. So far, only Fusion is the only one I can drag across some cheap foam on my face in just a few seconds while standing in the shower half-asleep and not get nicked or skin irritation. Even other “expensive” brands don’t perform as well. I get that everyone has different skin, beard hair, etc., but for me there’s basically only one choice.
