Overseas family buying baby goods?

My wife and I are expecting in March and my American family wants to help us with buying things like a stroller and car seat, clothes, etc.

Does anyone have experience with overseas people buying things from like an Amazon list or similar? It feels weird to just ask for cash and I want them to feel a part of the experience. I don’t think places like あかちゃんほんぽ have a baby registry list, and I don’t think you could use an American credit card to purchase if they did?

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Make a list on Amazon Japan. They make an account there and they can buy items with an American CC.

  2. Congratulations! Maybe just ask to send Amazon gift code by email. (Side note since it’s America tell them to contact you before sending since so many scammers use the same technique). Or they can try to order online the diaper tower thingy from online shop that accepts American cards. Dunno if this is your first kid or not but the first few months is basically getting a ton of the right sized diapers and wipes. And an ergo baby strap that doesn’t dig into your shoulders too much

  3. My parents just sent us money. They asked us to use the money to get a cot, babyseat etc but it was up to us which one we chose specifically. We went to physical stores to buy everything since it’s easier to know what you’re getting.
