Is my NTT ONU actually using IPoE ?

Hello,

I am new to Japan ISP nightmare and I’m trying to figure out how the stuff works especially so i can start hosting my servers again. Right now i am just using the box from my provider (rx600ki) , they’re using ntt fleet’s Hikari and when I do an IPv6 test it passes and shows i have an IPv6 address but when I look in the modems settings this page which shows IPoE information is empty except for the DNS information.

So i am wondering, is it normal for this page to be empty like this ?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Apparently if you got the RX-600 stuff from NTT, it will be pre-configured properly. Your 基本設定 -> 接続 menu for IPv4 PPPoE should be empty without any session info.

Also there’s a secret (?) menu at http://ntt.setup:8888/t/ or http://192.168.1.1:8888/t/ (or whatever IP is your NTT router) which is where I think the IPoE/V4overV6 stuff will be registered. I don’t have that NTT device to check it myself and their online manual is maddening to browse.

    Also,

That’s specifically not going to happen with IPoE because your IPv4 address is CGNAT’d with a bunch of other customers. No open ports for you.

Just move everything to IPv6, get a domain and manage DNS with dns.he.net for free, then you don’t need to care about port forwarding.

    edit: clarify IPv4 CGNAT
