Concerns about bringing my 155cc bike from my homecountry to Japan

Hello, firstly I wanna say sorry for commenting at an old post about this topic, now I’d like to state some of my concerns about bringing my motocycle (currently registered in my homecountry) over to Japan to commute, since I’m planning to secure a job and reside in Japan (I have never been to Japan before or knowing anyone there).

\-I have zero experience-don’t know if I can just ship my used bike, then fly to Japan to get the shipment. What are the obstacles about that? (my homecountry does not prohibit used bikes to be shipped overseas) Maybe if I ship it as a gift for some one (a motocycle dealership perhaps) the process will be less challenging? My purpose is just to get it to Japan and register it properly.

\-Does the papers related to my purchase and registering at my homecountry help with anything about the register progress in Japan? (My bike is lower than 199cc so it helps a lot with the inspection thing and registering already right?)

\*I’m currently in South East Asia, idk if being in Asia helps with anything

  1. *bought the bike (brand new) from an official Yamaha dealership and registered here in my homecountry, nothing modified, replaced tires (new set same size as the stock set, different brand). The exhaust is kinda quiet.

  2. Unless this bike has extreme sentimental value it’s not going to be worth it.

It is ***not*** as simple as putting your bike on a boat and sending it to Japan. There’s paperwork and fees involved. You could easily spend more than the bike is worth to get it imported and registered.

  3. OP really don’t do it…I don’t know which model you want to bring here but even if is Japanese brand, that fact will not help nothing to the whole process because is different standards the bikes produced for outside Japan. Only if really you want to bring for some “sentimental reason” and you want to afford the hassle go ahead but if is only thinking that you will use it as daily commute…don’t have any sense but anyway to each their own. If cash and time is not a problem.
