When a company, against their refund policy, refuses to give a refund

I’ve got no idea what to do here really. My partner bought a flight via Peach Air, which has a policy of sending refunds for cancelled flights. Last summer we had flights cancelled on us due to a typhoon and requested a refund, but she bought the tickets on a now non-existent bank account. Peach Air just said “well, on our system it says we did the refund so we did the refund.” But my partner has been back and forth with her former bank and Peach Air for months now and has confirmed (including a certificate from her bank which she sent to Peach Air) that the payment never went though.

Upon this final confirmation that no, there was no successful payment, Peach Air has decided to just give up and say no. After months of tracking down what happened to this money and finding out the bank never got it, they’re just saying “yeah sorry we don’t care”.

What’s the recourse at this point? Is there anything short of suing that can be done to put pressure on this company? Like an ombudsman or something? We don’t really have the time or money to be Japan’s consumer affairs enforcement on our own.

  1. Might be fucked. I mean realistically ya, there are things you can do but is the time and money really worth it?

I dunno how much you are out , but I’m assuming since it’s peach, it’s not a huge amount. Lesson learned though right. Don’t close bank accounts so fast.

  2. You get what you pay for when travelling with LCC’s.

” she bought the tickets on a now non-existent bank account “. Why close the account?

Depending on how much it was, it might be just better to take the loss and move on.
