One memorable night in Tokyo

A friend of mine will be in Tokyo for just one night in between flights, and we want to hang out together all night. Looking for suggestions for memorable experiences, preferably something he can’t experience back home in New Zealand.

At the very least, we’d like to have one very very nice meal, maybe something like an omakase course where we can chat with the chef. If there’s a Teamlab-esque immersive experience going on late at night somewhere, we’d be very into that too.

Details:

Budget: ¥50,000 per person

Date: This Friday. He lands at Narita at 5 PM, and wasn’t able to register for the Fast Track at immigration, so I’m guessing we should be good for anything in Tokyo that starts after 9 PM.

Preferences: We like having an activity to do, with room for conversation. We bond over art in general, films and comedy in particular. We like getting drunk. We don’t like clubs.

He doesn’t speak Japanese, I’m fluent in it.

  1. Check the michelin guide. You can find many restaurants that are small and you can chat with the chef. The restaurants also happen to be in fairly touristy areas with lots of things to do.

  2. I’d think somewhere between the lines of

Begin the night at a nice omakase place (10k-30k pp)

Then bar crawling in Shinjuku or roppongi. Roppongi has more English speakers but Shinjuku might have more unique bars/areas e.g. golden Gai, ni chome and lots of hostess clubs if your ok with being a translator

After you could get smashed then hit up karaoke, batting courts, arcade or whatever tickles your fancy.
