I lack experience to know if it’s always been this level or not. The easiest example being television. All the shows always pining about whats great about Japan, shitting on foreign stuff or putting it in questionable light, or, if doing some puff piece about a foreign topic will find some shoehorned in Japanese aspect to mark part of its success to.
Hell i saw a basketball game a few months ago where the Japanese team was beaten quite bad but the coverage was just always on Japan and replaying their few scores or missed shots over and over while giving the great plays of the other team basically no air time or replays.
Or even when it comes to food. A piece on a foreign cuisine specialty? Well heres the Japanese guy doing it a Japanese way who makes it EVEN BETTER!(shokupan anyone?).
Im wondering if covid has caused a change or not

Your examples are exactly how it has always been.
Replace with UK, and sounds like UK TV
What are you, American or something? I rarely hear such ignorance. A countries media focuses on that country, it’s the same wherever you go.
Omg they really focused on Japan in a sports event… Where should the Japanese media focus, Tanzania?
Japan have always been and will always be nationalistic and i love that for them
A bit but the examples you give have always been like that.
One I have noticed is Japanese TV has become A LOT more PG-13. Used to be wild back in the day.
It’s always been that way.
Japanese tv has always been Japan centric. During the Olympics Japanese TV would rather show endless reruns of Japanese results than show other competitions, especially if Japan won medals.
As a result I don’t really watch TV. I used to watch Sumo and news in the morning at 7am but even that has vanished as there’s little news outside of Japan, the US, and “sensational” news from France.
What’s worse is the diminishing critical analysis of Japanese society which is seen as being “negative”. It’s nearly all rah-rah propaganda with no questioning of authority.
