Adachi-ku

Is Adachi-Ku a safe area to live in?
I’ve heard some things which say that it has a higher crime rate etc than other places in Tokyo but I am from Dublin, Ireland so I highly doubt that it will be worse than there..

Any help appreciated.

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Maybe bcos there are lots of foreigners who live there but it’s a nice neighborhood. Mansions or apartments are usually far from the station so you may hve to take the bus or of you have a car then adachi ku is the place for you

  3. That’s what I heard even before I came to Japan, time flies, it’s been 6+ years since I live here, still in one piece, lol. p.s. I live in Adachi-ku Shinden close to arakawa.

  4. Adachi-ku and Edogawa-ku are the worst places to live inside the 23 wards IMO.
It may be okay if you compare to overseas standarts but I lived in Ayase for 4 years and I am never coming back.

  5. Adachi has its rough areas, but they are rough by Japanese standards and they aren’t everywhere. The only concerning vibe you might find is that the general population is not too sophisticated, but Adachi is fine otherwise.

  6. I’m near Nishi-arai and it’s about as peaceful as it gets. I see a lot of young families here too so I imagine it can’t be too bad a place. I haven’t been here very long but I’ve gone to a couple of other stations in Adachi and there are some where I’ve felt sliiightly more uneasy than in my area. By western standards I’d say it’s a negligible difference, but it does become noticeable when you live here.

It might depend on where exactly you live, but I don’t think even the worst parts will have you going “I need to get out now,” so worst case you can move to another area when you get the chance.
