TV Wall Mount

Hello, I’m researching services to have my TV mounted on my wall(drywall) and will have the cables hide in the wall. There are a bunch of services and the price varies wildly. I’m just curious if has anyone done this here in Japan and how was your experience, what was the cost, did you use a company or directly hired a handyman etc.

Also, I’m in Saitama but from what I’ve seen, location doesn’t really effect the price.

Thanks

  1. Not exactly what you asked, and it really depends on the construction of the wall. An extremely simple and temporary option could be to use something like these [DIY Labrico 2×4 tension things](https://amzn.asia/d/boVfcjn) and some handsomely painted 2x4s. There are plenty of variations.

  2. I am in the process of potentially ordering a house and got a quote for this at around 10万, insured with cables in the wall. That might just be the house builder taking the piss on the extras (as they often do)

Probably going to get back into woodworking and [make something similar to this](https://www.low-ya.com/goods/W4RTS) to be honest, it’ll be modular and less of a hassle to change/upgrade whilst still hiding the cables nicely.

  3. Do you own the wall you are planning on doing this to?

If not do you have permission in writing from the owner to do what you’re planning on doing to their wall?

If not are you prepared for the incredible expense that is going to come along with removing the mount and wiring and returning the wall to it’s original condition?

  4. Tl;DR just do it yourself 😉

I just mounted one 55″ on my friends wall. Cheap ~4000 jpy slim mount from amazon. Building drawings revealed the stud pattern so there was a nice 8×4 sub-stud between two of the actual studs (those are 910mm apart) that I was able to use the real bolts on, and then used 4x metal anchor meant for heavy ACs on both sides.

After test-fitting the tv so that it was where the friend wanted it, popped open a 1-gang hole with a drywall saw behind the tv and another similar hole at the same level as the power outlet at the floor level. Used a brush wall plate on both sides, wiggle power cable etc through that. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B074KHVW6W/

There’s some furniture that covers the bottom part so while it looked clean without, now it’s just perfect.

  5. Lots of factors regarding your wall construction and electrical layout. But…

In my wall I just made two openings (one behind TV) bought a plastic tube and ran it behind the walls to run wires down to an electrical switch near the floor and my TV stand to attach HDMI cables etc. A lot of wall mounts are not too hard to install yourself if you have a friend that can help. I purchased a Sanus TV mount. All instructions in English as well (imported from US).

Otherwise, you’d probably need to hire an electrician to make the path for the cables and then try to purchase a TV mount through a store like EDION or something that includes an installation service.
