Solo ski recommendations

Hello Senpais!

I’m hoping to ski (solo) in Japan for about 1-2 months. I was looking at Shiga Kogen but I’m so lost as to where to stay and ski. I’m a little budget conscious (ideally, less than US$70/night with my own room). I’m thinking of staying in 3-4 different locations to try out the various slopes. I don’t drive, so it’s just buses/trains for me.

Any recommendations on where to stay (which towns) and which resorts to ski would be very much welcomed! Also any other suggestions/activities (like sightseeing, seeing the snow monkeys) would be super helpful!

Arigato!

  1. This depends on your level I think. Shiga kogen is more geared towards families and intermediate skiers.
Hakuba has multiple different resorts but the slopes are steeper and they are not connected so you need to use the bus (which runs frequently).

Niseko is huge as well and all connected so you won’t need public transport but 70$ for your own room might be difficult.

Not knowing what your level is I would probably do Madarao, Nozawa Onsen, Myoko and Hakuba. There used to be busses between the resorts but not sure what’s happening this year. Last year pretty much everything was cancelled.
That way you get a little bit of everything.
