(University) Help me decide: Sophia FLA vs Waseda SILS vs ICU. I’m also currently applying to Todai PEAK. Please share your experiences, impressions, and any other useful information (esp. pertaining to academics). Thanks.

I’m not actually moving to Japan – I’m Japanese and I have a place to live here – but auto-mod told me I should post here, so I hope I’m in the right place.

I know these are all well-regarded schools in Japan, so my decision will come down to the small details.

I’ve heard a bit about Sophia and ICU, since a bunch of my family members/family friends are alumni. SILS is new territory for my family, since no-one’s been there. I know Waseda is one of the top private universities in Japan (= name-drop points), but I also know that SILS is rather new – i.e. not as established – compared to Sophia and ICU. I also know that Japanese universities have a reputation for being “hard to enter, easy to graduate” because of the extreme emphasis on entrance exams (although this impression may be outdated since I heard it from my parents, who graduated over 20 years ago). If anyone knows how the academic rigour compares between these schools, I’d be glad to hear it. My main goal is to get a decent liberal arts education – alumni networks and famous circles are pluses, but not the deciding factors.

Also, if anyone is studying/has studied at Tokyo University PEAK, please let me know what it’s like. I know Todai is the Harvard of Japan – does PEAK match up to that reputation? I probably have no chance of getting in, but I’d like to know anyway (haha).

Thanks.
