I have finished JFZ 1. What are some good manga/games/anime?

I have just finished the Japanese from Zero 1 textbook (and the respective YouTube videos). I think it is a great textbook and I feel like I have learned a lot. I have just gotten the second book too but while I work through that I would like to start practicing reading and watching things. What are some good anime, manga and games for this level?

By the way, though the textbook uses progressive hiragana and katakana, I learned them both before starting the textbook.

  1. Congratulations on your accomplishment!

It maybe over recommended but as far as I’ve heard, やつばと!is entirely in hiragana so it’s accessible to early learners.

  2. It might sound pedantic, but the best material is one you will use 🙂 Pokemon Violet and Scarlet have furigana if youre willing to look up a lot of words and go extremely (painfully) slowly. Nihongo Con Teppei is a podcast that is short spoken Japanese listening practice that I enjoyed. AnimeLon has a lot of anime you can watch and look up words you dont know via Yomichan (I dont recommend the built-in animelon dictionary). Reading things like Shirokuma Cafe is all fine and good if you like it, but if you arent enjoying it you wont do it, so find something you enjoy even if its above your level! Remember to be patient with yourself and allow yourself grace when you dont understand, and know you can always come back to it later. Good luck!

  3. Learnnatively.com have ranked a lot of literature. It is all user submitted but seems to have a lot of stuff.
