My current lease has a clause stating that after age 65 I have to pay the rental company every year to “approve” my lease which makes me wonder why they might decide to refuse approval to a tenet who has paid rent on time for a decade or more ( I was told it has something to do with landlords trying to protect themselves from losses if an old person dies in their unit).
I have read from other sources that it is very hard to evict tenets in Japan which makes me wonder why they do this because, if that is correct, they can’t simply evict someone by refusing to “approve” a renewal.
Does anyone have insights on what might be going on here?
