How do I apologize for NOT replying sooner? (in chat)

We were having a conversation and my phone was I think 3% I didn’t have a decent connector for the charger so the battery stayed red… I want to continue (it’s the next day) the convo but I’m not sure how exactly…

早くテキスが出せなくてすいません。

I’m sorry I couldn’t text you sooner.

is this correct?

We’re on HelloTalk. Not polite enough or is this the right “sorry” for me to use? Should I be more formal?

  1. how do we know if it’s polite enough if we don’t know who you’re talking to?

other thing is テキス isn’t a phrase i’ve heard, i would suggest 答える or 返事する for “reply”

i would say like 早く答えられなくてごめんね / 早く返事が出来なくてごめんね

but if it’s someone you don’t know well, then yeah すみません or whatever. (すいません or すんません or however you write it would be a casual-er dialect form but the ‘masen’ form is still a bit formal)

  2. Usually Japanese people say to me something like 返事が遅くなってごめんなさい!
