We had a premature baby recently and we would like to go to the Immigration Office to apply for my Permanent Resident Visa before he is discharged from the hospital. Since I’m changing from a spouse visa and my japanese wife is my guarantor, is she required to be together with me during the application at the Immigration Office? Since she is breast pumping every day and the immigration office doesn’t have a place to do so she would like to stay at home to avoid breaking her breast pumping cycle.
Does anyone know if me going alone to the Immigration Office would negatively affect my permanent visa application somehow even if I explain the situation? or they won’t care as long as I have all the documentation in order? (including my wife’s documentation)
Thank you!

I just handed in my PR paperwork alone.
Your spouse is not required to show. All you need is all the listed paperwork (and then whatever they request afterwards).
You should allow for at least six months of processing time, so if your spouse visa is expiring I’d renew that first then do PR shortly after.
This is the first time I apply though but I do not believe an interview of either party is required.
As a spouse I could pick up all the paperwork they requested in my wife.
Solo ok.
Have you been married for 3 years or more? And do you have a 3/5 year spouse visa on your person right now?
She doesn’t need to go.
Worst case, video call her at the counter.
Thank you for all the replies! I will be going alone then.
Yup, you can do it alone if you are comfortable speaking Japanese and know your paperwork is good. There is usually a Japanese person there that speaks a little English and can help you if you are lost. What matters is that your wife filled out all of your paperwork.
