A police officer from Kochi Prefectural Police was transferred and investigated for inappropriate behaviour by hugging and kissing a female news reporter

In October, an investigative officer from the Kochi South Police Station was found to have hugged a female reporter from the prefecture on a street in Kochi City and engaged in other inappropriate behaviour.

The inappropriate behaviour was committed by a male police inspector who worked as a detective officer at the Kochi South Police Station. According to sources, in October 2022, after eating and drinking in Kochi City with a female journalist from a media organisation in the prefecture, the male police inspector hugged and kissed her on the street.

The female reporter protested and the inappropriate behaviour was later discovered. The prefectural police stated that they were “investigating the facts”, but in late November they transferred the male inspector to the police department of the prefectural police headquarters. The reason for the transfer was that he had acted inappropriately despite the fact that he had a wife and child.

The prefectural police commented that they would consider disciplinary action depending on the results of the investigation. As for an apology to the female journalist, it stated that it would “take action if necessary based on the results of the investigation”.
