How difficult as a foreigner is it to secure monthly parking?

title says it all pretty much, here’s some background as to why!

I moved here on a 2 year student visa mostly because of my interest and love for the car scene and culture surrounding it. Most apartments don’t offer/have parking and the ones that do the parking is usually taken. I know where to look in terms of finding a monthly parking spot but I was curious on how difficult it is to secure as I’m here for language school and am still learning Japanese. Would it be easier to stick it out and get an apartment with parking available or get a detached monthly spot in a mechanical or regular lot? Thank you in advance!

  1. It shouldn’t be an issue at all. However that being said, why do you need a parking spot?

Do you currently have a car? Are you looking at getting a car? In either case, you legally need to have a parking spot within 2 km of your residence and have it registered before you can purchase/continue to own.

Apart from the cars registered parking location, you can have as many monthly parking lots as you’d like. It shouldn’t be an issue if you are a foreigner as generally the contracts can be broken at any time.

  2. When we moved, our new place didn’t have parking and our realtor took care of finding places for parking and I chose the option I liked best (based on price and location).
    Wasn’t an issue at all
