Lost Passport, need to update address, am I in trouble?

Hey everyone
I’m a language school student, been here since April. Moved from one sharehouse to another 2-3 months ago. The 2nd one I was in was a nightmare, bad neighbors and filthy. I’ve been working and studying and I have insomnia so it took me like a month to change addresses, and I still forgot to hand in my original insurance card.

Anyway, After like a month at the 2nd sharehouse, I got a 3rd apartment and moved in immediately. I’m still paying rent on the 2nd sharehouse because I haven’t had time to move my luggage yet and it’s really cheap.

The thing is, I still haven’t registered my address at this third apartment, I’ve been in there for 5-6 weeks, but I’m still paying for the second one, and the second one is where the government thinks I live I guess (it’s on my residence card).

Since I’m “living” (paying the rent) at the address that’s on my residence card (the 2nd place) am I alright?

Problem is, I lost my passport unfortunately and I need that to change my address of course, but I’m hearing it’ll be a few weeks to get it. Will I be deported if I walk into the ward office 2 months late to tell them about my 3rd apartment?

I’m really scared, I love living here and usually I’m responsible with these things, but I’m busy working/studying constantly and I’ve been unable to sleep for months, plus needing food/laundry/cleaning/etc, normally I would never take so long to do something such as this… im ashamed

  1. If you technically still pay for the previous apartment, I think you’re fine. It’s like you have two residences. As long as one of them is registered, it shouldn’t be a problem. Just change it as soon as you can. They don’t ask for proof of when you moved. Just ask you the date. Put the date of the day you go to change it as the date you started living there.

Also, I’ve not been a student here, but why do you need your passport to change your address? Do you not have a residency card? I’ve never been asked for my passport to change my address at city hall, just to renew the card at the immigration office.

  2. You dont need your passport to change address.. I dont know who told you that. Also you wont get deported for not having changed your address yet, youre technically still living there.

  3. If you have a MyNumber card its a quick process. Most municipalities offer some late night or weekend service as well. Best to do ASAP if you aren’t actually living at the share-house. Either way, they don’t ask for any ID other than your resident card (and MyNa if you have that)
