Started studying after passing N2 (my kanji knowledge in terms of recognition was above what’s required for N1 already, so i had to focus only on remembering how to write them by hand + learning more vocabulary)
Decided on taking 2級 for several reasons:
1. it’s the highest level that doesn’t go into obscure / meme territory, making it still rather doable 2. outside of the yojijukugo section, it’s mostly words that you’ll see rather often anyway and conversely, just reading books is kind of like studying vocab for it 3. if you’re using 問題集, having one is definitely enough for 2級 – so it doesn’t require much study materials (and there are relatively big collections of questions on the internet like https://kanken.jitenon.jp/mondaiz02.html) 4. you can’t take higher levels outside of japan anyway (afaik)
