Protein Powder in Japan?

What’s a good way to buy Protein Powder (whey) while in Japan? In the supermarkets it’s possible to get the Savas protein and one more brand (don’t remember the name). Problem is these proteins are way too expensive for the quantity you get, and honestly, I don’t even know about the quality and purity of their blend.

  1. I used to always use my protein not sure how it is with the exchange rate recently. They always have sales going on.

  2. Don Quijote in my area sells a lot of different brands. There is also Spopia shiratori, and Xebio. Between these 3, Don Quijote is the cheapest

  3. If you care about stuff like the ratio(%) protein/scoop, quality, isolate/hydrolyzed protein, you have no choice but to buy it from iHerb, MyProtein, or import from somewhere else. Although the prices are kind of shit right now, I still keep buying my stuff from iHerb.

  4. iHerb is good, but I buy Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard on Amazon Japan at reasonable price. They usually give nice discounts in Prime Day or other deals during the year.

  5. I like Golden Standard Isolate. You can pick it up at Don Quixote or Costco.

  6. I used to buy ON Gold Standard on iherb but now it’s cheaper to buy it on Amazon. Although prices seem wild now because of the yen’s current value

  7. I computed before and xplosion was cheap on amazon but the prices rose so i’m just getting myprotein, also off amazon. If I get it directly from myprotein.jp even on the site discount there’s a shipping fee and i’m not a wholesale kind of buyer and don’t feel like buying a lot just to offset that fee tbh

  8. Previously I was using ON Gold Standard and Dymatize Elite ordered off iHerb, but for the past couple of months I’ve switched to [Explosion Whey](https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B078WNFXQQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), which is around 7100円 for a bag of 6.6lbs, compared to the ON Gold Standard which is 10,500円 for 5lbs on iHerb if it’s even in stock.

Incidentally how do you dispose of the empty protein powder tubs? My neighbors have converted most of mine to containers for plants and shrubs, but I have one or two more lying around. Do they go in burnable trash?

  9. MyProtein ships here relatively quickly, otherwise as others have said Donki has a decent range (although I’ve never used them so can’t comment on the quality!)

  10. Iherb but some brands got price hiked due to the yen being ass right now. Myprotein too used to be really cheap but has went up a lot in price. There’s some brands on Amazon that are cheap (I think cheaper than myprotein?).

Taste varies by person a lot so I suggest just trying some different ones and repeat the one(s) you like

  11. I recommend Be Legend protein. They aren’t expensive and their berry flavor is really good.

  12. get it from myprotein, but wait until they have a sale and get a big order then. for some reason myprotein fucked up their pricing a while ago and is just impossibly expensive. but then they keep having sales of 50%+ to make the prices bearable again. I guess it’s their new pricing model but it’s just really annoying.

  13. Used to order from bodybuilding.com, but it has gotten quite price in recent years.

Now I use iHerb, not really a fan of them as it feels like 90% of their products are something goop would sell… But they do have good protein powder and the shipping is quite quick.

Tried MyProtein, but their protein powder tasted like s*hit.

  14. MyProtein is by far the best source, especially considering their ongoing promotion and sales..sign up on Line with them and you can pretty much monthly get 50% coupons etc..

I usually wait to build a cart and when the sales hit I save like 10-20k using vouchers
