  1. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until the perpetrator gets caught but the fact that it was in a cooler box would suggest that it wasn’t a spur of the moment panic induced act but very much a premeditated attempt to delay the discovery

  2. Good to know medical abortion pill is finally coming in Japan, 40 years later than the rest of advanced world!

But at the cost of 200 000 yen
And with the authorization of the male partner

Guess we will continue to find newborn corpses in the holy land of Japan for the next decades until the next social advancement

  3. This is very, very sad. I wish women were given more opportunities to abort pregnancies they don’t want. It would prevent so many instances like this. I cant imagine the guilt she feels… it must be horrible. I wish it was easily accessible and something that people could just get, or even just regular birth control! It’s SUCH a hassle to get even the pill!

Maybe in the coming years things will hopefully change.

  4. This is disheartening.

I hope at some point abortion or giving up the baby to a home becomes an easy and affordable option for people in this kind of situation. Nobody should be in a situation that makes them feel like this is the only choice. It’s unfair for the parent and especially the child.

  5. The question I clicked the link to check- it was a body inside a cooler in the locker.

Not the newborn put in the locker to die.

    Hopefully it was stillborn.

  6. Why do people upvote this? I mean, it’s news and all, I just have no need to hear it.

  7. This is terrible. Doesn’t Japan have places where you can leave a baby safely, no questions asked? In Europe a few of the more anti-abortion countries (also apparently Pakistan) have “baby hatches” attached to hospitals and fire stations where you can leave a baby and someone will immediately find it and take care of its basic needs etc.

  8. I’m surprised that people didn’t know this happens a lot here. The first locker baby incident happened as early as 1973, and those moms are usually selfish pieces of shit, a well-known fact regardless of what you think of this.

  9. It was just two nights ago I got to a point in the Yakuza: Like A Dragon story when they explain a baby in a coin locker plot point. I thought that was a wild thing and had never heard of such an incident. (mild story spoiler) they later explain two coin locker babies. And I thought, “ok well now you’re really losing me here. One was hard to believe but two is impossible!” But judging by the comments here, I guess this isn’t an absolute unprecedented occurrence… What a tragic thing. To say the least.

  10. At first I thought I was on the Yakuza sub. But this is fucking terrible…

  11. How tragic. Birth control, abortion and baby boxes need to be more accessible here.

  12. Disclaimer: not joking about dead babies

I remember seeing on a coin locker terms and conditions sticker in Kansai, “dead bodies” were one of the prohibited items.

I remember thinking how bizarre that was. But here we are.
