Anyone taken an international flight out of Haneda recently?

Have a morning flight booked, taking the first train gets me to Haneda 2 hours before take off. Really can’t afford a taxi.
Will 2 hours be enough? They recommend 3 hours for international. Anyone have any recent experience?

  1. 2 hours should be fine for Haneda, but you can also consider taking the last train and sleeping in the airport. Plenty of people do this.

  2. I went abroad from Haneda a couple of times this year (once in June, again in August) and for both times 2 hours was plenty.

  3. I flew out of Haneda (to Sydney) last week using ANA. Check In and baggage drop took 5 mins at most, and customs took the same. This was at 5pm. I can’t believe it was so quick…

  4. I actually had a hard time getting through, not because of any particular problems but everything just seemed to be getting processed very slowly. Immigration lines were long and sluggish. We got there two hours early and got to our gate 20 minutes before boarding.

  5. Haven’t been myself recently but have had friends use it as recently as last week. They report that the lines for both check-in and going through security were horrendous, so if possible I’d check in online to save you at least part of the queuing. This was my experience also when I used it back in August.

I think in the end 2 hours would be enough time to get through, but do expect to queue for quite a while. Perhaps things aren’t quite so bad as early as you are planning to go though.

  6. I made a departure right before tourists were allowed to travel back in (late September), so it was -very- empty. I still think 2 hours should be enough for you, but personally wouldn’t want to cut it any closer than that.
