Branch number and account number

I’m trying to set up PayPal with my Japanese bank account and I’m having the worst time with it.

It’s asking me for the branch number and telling me “you can find your branch number in your passbook” without telling me where.

Same with the account number, I’m not sure if I’m reading it right, but PayPal only wants the first seven numbers.

Googling has been frustrating, is there any sort of picture or breakdown of what all the stuff in the passbook is?

  1. how about starting with what bank you have? if it’s jp post, it has a different numbering system from the rest. if it’s another domestic bank then the numbers are XXX YYYYYYY as in 3 numbers followed by 7 numbers. you can’t miss them.

  2. If you cannot get the information with the help of Google Translate I don’t know what to tell you. All the bank books I’ve seen only have these two numbers, written quite prominently. There isn’t a uniform design but they’re all quite similar.

  3. Check your bank branches website as it should have that information.
Another source of info for the bank and branch codes can be found at
    [https://www.japanbankdirectory.com/](https://www.japanbankdirectory.com/)
    or
    [https://japanbanklist.com](https://japanbanklist.com)
The bank code is 4 digits and the branch is 3 digits and the account is 7 digits.
As was stated JP Post has a different numbering system for accounts

  4. If you have JP Bank, check the pattern of numbers in your bankbook.

    (a) XXXXX (記号) and XXXXXXX (番号)

    OR

    (b) XXX and XXXXXXX

    —–

    If you have (b), then:

XXX is your branch number (店番)

XXXXXXX is your account number (口座番号)

    —–

If you have (a), go to this site:

enter the XXXXX, in the left space

enter the XXXXXXX in the right space

    leave the center space blank

    then click the green button.

    —–

next is a confirmation screen, if all is correct, click the green OK button.

    —–

    final screen:

the 3-digit number is your BRANCH number (店番)

the 3-character kanji is the BRANCH name (店名)

this is followed by the kana of the BRANCH name in brackets (——–)

the 7-digit number is your ACCOUNT number (口座番号)

    —–

    PayPal wants your:

    Bank name (ゆうちょ銀行)

    BRANCH number in kana

    ACCOUNT number (7 digits)

    *Edit: Fixed some errors.*
