Moving to japan as an automotive technician

In the past, moving to japan as automotive technician was a hard thing, but starting from 2018, automotive technician became a 特定技能1号に係る技能, as soon as I get pass for 自動車整備分野特定技能評価試験, theoretically I can look for some job that offer working visa.

but in reality, what is the chance of getting hired by a company with working visa because he had passed the exam without any practical experience? (I worked on my own car and friends car during weekend but I can’t provide any proof of experience as I am not working in a shop). There is sample exam paper available on the website and the test is quite easy when comparing to ASE Certification. I think the difficulty is just about 30% when comparing it to ASE, looks like everyone can do it. However moving to japan is never a easy thing, so I think I might have missed something important…?

Yes. You’ve missed how gawdawfully terrible this visa type is.

Please search the sub and do some research on the Specified Skilled Worker visa. We’ve talked about it quite a few times before.

to;dr – It’s a slave labor visa designed to import cheap employees from 3rd world countries.

Based on your mention of ASE you’re from the States. The SSW is not designed for you, nor is it something you want to do.

Plus the only place you can take the skills test in English is the Philippines, but the test is limited to citizens.
