Accepted into Tokyo International University

Hello everyone,
I’m from the UK and will be a second year transfer student onto the International Relations course at Tokyo International University! I would like to know about general life at TIU and the surrounding area, if possible! Thanks very much.

  1. I thought in Japan you couldn’t transfer into a second, third or fourth year and if u got accepted you’d have to start from year 1 again no matter what

  2. The area is pretty suburban. A couple stops by rail to Kawagoe which has a big town / small city feel. It’s not terribly far to get in to Tokyo by rail, and there is good hiking day trips in the mountains to the west. In the area surrounding your campus you’ll find plenty of decent food, a lot of quiet, and as much jogging and biking as you can handle in a lifetime if it pleases you.

  3. I’m a current student there right now and I would say that there isnt much to do around the surrounding area. Kawagoe is only a few stations away and there is plenty to do and eat and Tokyo is only 45 minutes away by train. General life in TIU is what you make of it to be honest, I know people who party all day and people who are the most hardworking people I know. The student lounge in school is a place where you get to know people but its insanely noisy so you can never get any work done there. Quality of the education is not the best for sure, most of the people here are not too serious about education aspect of university.
