Hey, this is my first post here,よろしく.
I am working for one year in Hiroshima as an Volunteer in a social facility.
Today I received a letter, that invited me to a local “Reaching 20 years Celebration” at the 9th of January. My coworkers told me that I should go there, but I don’t really know what’s happening there and what I have to do there.
So are there any people out there who have knowledge about that and could help me out with some informations?
I would be very thankful:D

It’s probably the coming of age ceremony that people do in the year that they turn 20, which until this year was also when they become legal adults. The legal age was lowered to 18 earlier this year but 20 is still considered a milestone age in Japanese culture. It’s marked as 大人の日 on the calendar and the one for 2023 will be on January 9.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. Go and have some fun. Don’t drink too much 🤘🏼
Look up “coming of age day”, and you’ll see what it’s like. People dress up (women often in beautiful kimono – if you’re a woman and you want that, book at a salon way ahead of time) and take commemorative photos with their family and friends.
I’ve never been, but from what my friends have said, the speeches are about being an adult and being a productive member of society. I think it’s OK even if your Japanese isn’t perfect to understand it, you’ll get the gist.
