Medical emergency question.

I need to go to the doctor tomorrow at first hour, or maybe tonight.

I moved to Japan and registered at the local ward months ago, but I have not received my health card yet. Probably because my address was not fully processed or something, and so there was a problem with the delivery.

Is it okay to go to the doctor without the physical card, and notify of this? I am unsure where the card could be, and this is a semi-urgent matter.

Thank you

  1. You can go to the doctor but you’ll have to pay up front yourself, keep the bill, and then claim the 70% back after you got your card.

  2. Are you SURE you weren’t given it when you sign up for health insurance? It might look like a piece of paper. It’s not actually a plastic card if you have national insurance. It doesn’t take months to come. So something is wrong.

To answer the rest you’ll just have to pay in full instead of the usual 30%. You can get a refund if you go back once you have your card.

  3. Contact the insurance desk at your ward office and find out where your insurance card is. If you have a MyNumber card that can also be used as a health insurance card.
