22-day February trip. Itinerary check and advice welcomed.

Husband and I are going back to Japan in February 2023. Itinerary is, possibly, as such:

Feb-2: Arrive in Tokyo
– dinner and night in hotel near Tokyo Station

Feb-3-5: Sapporo
– Feb 3rd will be train day lol
– Snow festival
– Shirogane Blue Pond

Feb-6: Hakodate
– Harbor Lights at night
– Morning market before leaving Hokkaido

Feb-7-8: Sendai?
– Would be cool to check out Ginzan Onsen for a day trip

Feb-9-10: Kanazawa?
– Interested in Samurai and Tea districts
– Maybe keep this to only the 9th to give us another day in the west?

Feb-11-13: Fukuoaka?
– Would do a day trip to Hiroshima one of the days

Feb-14-18: Osaka
– Meeting up with a friend
– Will day trip (possible overnight) to Nara
– Want to check out Nintendo World

Feb-19-24: Tokyo
– Chill out and explore our favorite city before heading home

It’s the 7th through the 13th that has me overwhelmed. Main reasons for these places are:

– We haven’t been to these regions yet.
– Wanted to break up travel as we head back down from the North.

That being said, does this plan seem reasonable? Should I drop one of the cities/regions to spend more time in others/elsewhere?

I haven’t booked hotels for these areas and suspect when I do, they’ll be booked with proximity to local transport in mind.

Appreciate all advice/suggestions 🙂

  1. I do not not especially like the order. What I would do is this.

Maybe of to sleep first night in Tokyo, but fly to Sapporo. Then move your way down to Sendai, then Tokyo as a middle point to Kanazawa, Osaka, stop by Hiroshima (even if you don’t spend a night) Fukuoka and fly out of Fukuoka.

For the limited numbers of days you have, I find that there is a bit much long distances that are longer than I would typically want to do in a single day. The problem on going so fast and surface level over many regions is that if you go again in the future, you will likely find places all around the country to visit and it will make it really not efficient overall. I personally did a trip all over Japan and now that I am returning, I realize that I want to go back to the same regions because I want to explore them a bit deeper.
