I tried out duolingo’s Japanese a week ago but now I’m beginning to reconsider. Does anyone know good apps for beginners to get a solid grasp on the grammar and writing systems and whatnot? I’m also open to using multiple apps/resources in tandem. This is all very confusing and intimidating so any clarity is much appreciated.

Give Renshuu.org a try. It’s highly customizable and has lots of features included with the free version.
