Is there a misunderstanding or am I being lied to or something?

I am trying to go to Akamonkai language school in April on a tourist visa for 3 months (1 term). They’re telling me I need the 2 million yen and proof of income and stuff for the short-term stay. I applied to another school (ISI) and they basically were like “Okay see ya then”. I really wanna go to akamonkai because go go nihon lists it as the most intense study-wise. ISI didn’t ask for anything and they said I wouldn’t even need to do anything for a visa to stay there. Americans I guess don’t need to apply for any kind of visa for 90 days and under. So I’m wondering why akamonkai is telling me that I need all this stuff? Is one of the schools wrong? I could go the easy route and just go to ISI since I already have things set up, but idk.

And if it is some kind of misunderstanding with akamonkai, is it worth changing schools? If anyone has experience with ISI or akamonkai and can tell me what to expect and your recommendations, I’d highly appreciate it. Ideally I want to do as much intense studying as possible. I of course wanna go out and do stuff but my main focus is gonna be on learning Japanese.

They are probably assuming you are going to be applying for a student visa.

Immigration requires proof of financial support before they will issue a visa, usually 1.5-2 million yen in savings *or* proof of income from a sponsor.

You shouldn’t need this if you’re doing a short-term session.

  2. They probably just following their script.

Going off script can lead to all sorts of discombobulation here.

Are you sure that the Alamonkai school is not going to apply for a COE anyway?

It’s possible that the school has got into trouble with immigration in the past, due to too many “students” disappearing.
