What would happen in this situation regarding ambulance and auto lock?

I’ve had to call the ambulance twice for other people and was there to assist with opening the auto lock and doors. I was just thinking this morning what would happen if I had an emergency alone in my condominium and was in bad shape?

Assuming I could call an ambulance, I’m thinking I would try to drag myself down to the lobby and wait for assistance. Barring that, I think my priority would be to unlock my own front door.

If the ambulance arrived and I was incapacitated to open the auto lock, would they call other units in the condo to try to gain access to the building? My limited interactions with ambulance staff, don’t fill me with confidence as far as their ability to deal with emergencies, just look at how slowly they drive.

What would happen if the front door of my unit was locked as well? I can’t really see them going commando and bashing down the door.

My intercom does have an emergency button, and I pressed it once by accident, ooops, and Secom staff arrived later. I just talked to them on the intercom and explained it was a mistake-sorry. Would they be able to assist the ambulance staff to gain entrance?

Anybody had or has heard of someone who had this type of situation? As an older person waiting for the results of my annual physical, I think it just got me thinking about this future possibility.

  1. I’d imagine that if you can call the emergency service for the ambulance, you’d be able to tell them the there is auto lock and or your apartment door is locked. I’m sure they have a precaution for a scenario.
If you were incapacitated though, you wouldn’t be able to do either.

  2. Had the same thoughts at some point and came to a conclusion that in any real, incapacitating emergency, you’d be dead long before they arrive. I called one to an address not far from a dispatch station and it still took them around 20 minutes to come. It takes 10 minutes on foot.

The only things these guys are good for are blasting sirens at 3am on an empty road and announcing their turns in a *very* dramatic voice.
