I’m an English teacher, and I love my job. However, I’ve been in Utsunomiya for 4 years (2 years as a student) now and I’m ready to move to Tokyo for better opportunities and career advancement. My current job pays well (better than most eikaiwa I’ve seen) and even covers pension and insurance. My boss is incredibly nice and even offered me a raise to stay. Is it best to just make the big leap or stay where I’m at?

Did you get an offer in Tokyo? If you find a better job in Tokyo, by all means go for it. The only risk is that housing costs are much higher, probably double that of utsunomiya.
Covering pension and insurance is a basic requirement of most employment not a perk btw.

The only time I can say I am truly ready is when I actually find my next job and receive a job offer with acceptable terms.
Unless you have tens of thousands of dollars in savings, it is a bad idea to emigrate first and then look for a job. When you don’t find a good job and your savings are low, you will have to compromise. As a result, you may end up in a worse situation than you are in now.
So you should look for a new job while keeping your current one.
