What to do to memorize kanji

I’m a Japanese student who has spent my entire life living abroad up until a year ago.
I feel embarrassed and ashamed that I cannot read any of the kanji students my age know.

Since winter holidays are on their way, i want to use this opportunity to memorize as many kanji as I possibly can.
Any tips? (what books to read, what websites will come in handy, how to practice, etc)

  1. Wanikani is a popular app.
I used the book “remembering the kanji” by James Heisig and it worked for me.
