Will I be taken seriously by local authorities if I was touched inappropriately despite being a guy?

Happened to me twice to me in the past 3 weeks ever since I moved to Japan for work. I’ve worked in different countries before when the same things happened and I got mixed results (In Qatar, the police ended up interrogating me if I was on some sort of substance instead. In Germany, I was taken seriously. In Singapore, they told me that its nothing and a waste of time. In The US \[my home country, then it starts varying more often depending on the state\], it was sort of county dependent, because even in the same state, different counties got their own level of enforcement). It kind of just equates to gender preference, and from my experience, women get taken seriously more often, though the US and Germany, mostly Germany, didn’t care if I was a guy because getting touched inappropriately is still not cool regardless.

I’m a guy, I didn’t think this’d happen, yet it has happened enough times in my life I can’t help but report it whenever I could squeeze the time in. I was being touched as if I was a woman they wanted to harass (i.e. groping my rear end and even my chest, and I don’t even have pecs of enough body fat to have them). I rather not fight nor make a scene because, in my experience, equivalents of “disturbing the peace” varies from country to country, and I don’t want to break those laws, but man, I didn’t think I’d be a target, and I stopped caring what genders the strangers were inappropriately touching me almost a decade ago, cuz its still not cool.

While I wasn’t touched nowhere near as bad in Japan as when I was in Qatar, Germany, and the US, and I don’t think I got touched more than 10x in total in countries I’ve lived and worked in, but man, I really don’t like being touched *like that* without my consent, and its still not cool.

*But yes, despite being a guy, will I be taken seriously by the authorities in Japan?*

  1. It’s Japan, they might have some kind of point card for this. Maybe you’ll get a coupon.

  2. The police didn’t do shit when either of my teeth were bashed out by my ex. So good luck even if you were a lady.

  3. I am also interested in how the situation goes in Japan. I would appreciate it greatly if anyone could share their experiences and stories.
