Get a good textbook. It’s absolutely worth it. It’ll help you develop a meaningful spread of skills. So many people end up without a grasp of grammar needed to use their kanji and vocab.
I did genki (a textbook) after that
it took like 7 months and it was so boring
After that I started reading books, definitely not adult reading level, but fun books anyway. I read 魔女の宅急便 first and it took me over 2 months of grueling dictionary lookups, but was way more fun than genki.
