I have a pretty long commute to work, and want to try Japanese again. I took some courses back in the day and can pick up on a few beginner words here and there.
I learned Spanish fluently by pure immersion (moved to Peru for a couple years), but I had visual context to help me along, and had enough vocabulary to ask for new words.
So while I appreciate immersion, unfortunately, some podcast suggestions I see (Nihongo con Teppei, etc.) are just straight Japanese, and I can’t look up the words or read the transcript while I’m driving because I don’t quite have the vocabulary basis to fill in the blanks.
Othe podcasts that have English seem to be just strict memorization of a random “tourist phrase” without building on the previous lesson or trying to actually teach anything.
What I’m kind of hoping for would be an actual series of lectures, or perhaps an audio version of flashcards? Maybe an audio version of Anki? At least until I have enough of a basis that I can start following along with the standard podcasts.
Is this a dumb idea?

I like these free [audio flashcards](https://www.japaneseaudiolessons.com/free-japanese-lessons/). They start from a low level and progress, with additional transcripts and other supplementary material.
