How long did it take most of you realize that 待つ and 持つ use different kanji? Any other good examples of this “phenomena”?

Took me 10 months to realize it.

RIP self-confidence.

  1. I learned it from the bottom up: first the radicals, then the kanji. So I always knew it. “The “hand” is in the 持つ, not in the 待つ, logically”

  2. Ill be honest, I still havent memorised which is which and go entirely off context. 侍(る) I’m fine with for some reason.
