Looking for the best/cheapest option to still use my phone when I visit my parents in the US next week for use in data and calling.

My wife and I are currently with UQ Mobile and they have a $5 per-day data plan to use in the US but that’s going to add up to a pretty penny since we’ll be visiting for over two weeks.

Any advice on how to keep the cost down would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

  1. When you say calling, to Japan or locally? As for data, you should always get a local sim card because it will be cheaper. I think you should look at Mint Mobile or Ultra mobile. If you are calling internationally Ultra seems to be good with 100 minutes international calls. I haven’t used these services.

  2. Prepaid sims as someone else mentioned, or just get one pocket wifi between both of you, works out about 5 bucks a day for 5gb.

  3. OP, thanks for this as I’m leaving to see my in-laws next week and needed cell options. Enjoy your holidays!

  4. Then transfer your accounts to Ahamo.
With Ahamo you get 20GB that can also be used in the US.
    Then transfer back.
