I am getting married next week to my fiancé of a year next month in the states. I am now working in the process of getting their visa secured.
My company said they can’t assist me with this part, but HR said it’s not that difficult and with my income/Engineering Visa it should be a quick approval.
I was going to hire a lawyer to do this but they seem to be around 150,000 yen. I’m absolutely ok spending this if needed, but people are saying that it’s pretty straight forward to fill out the documents on their own and turn them in.
Has anyone done this? It really seems like a 2 page document then attach the questionnaire and your “proof” like marriage certificate, stamped letter of my salary from my office, and such
I just don’t want this to take months and months, but saving that money would pay for the flight!

Applying for dependent COE by ourselves is the norm, isn’t it? The process is so easy and simple that many people from my country who neither speak Japanese nor English are doing it every year.
