Getting a Seven Bank account after freshly moving to japan?

Hey everyone,

I will officially be moving to Japan on the first of February 2023, staying around Komagome Station for 7 months.

Now not having the possibility to receive a credit card in my fiscally conservative home country of germany, I am looking to get a japanese bank account asap. After researching the branches in the area, the international friendliness and the (for foreigners limited) choice of banks, I concluded that I should give Seven Bank a try when arriving.

Does anyone have experiences with them? Do they take freshly immigrated short-term stayers? I will have a well paid job with an internationally recognised brand, but I will only be staying for seven months. Are there any alternatives that might be better for my situation.

Thanks in Advance!

  1. Japan Post Bank account for the win. You just need 1 yen to open an account. While doing that open an EPOS and Rakuten card.

  2. Japan Post Bank will pretty much give anyone a bank account. You can fill up their form using their app or pre-fill it on their site and print the physical form out out without having to actually write anything.

  3. You can also try Shinsei Bank, they have english staff who can assist on opening an account. You need a residence card and a Japanese sim card for the requirments.
