I am planning on going to Japan in Fall 2023. I am currently planning for Mid to Late October to Late to Early December. I’m a bit stuck on the Mount Fuji part of my trip, so I would like to bounce my ideas off you all and getting some ideas too!
Some background – I’ve been to Fuji back in Spring 2018, but it was a day trip from Shinjuku to Lake Kawaguchi and Chureito Pagoda. I ate some Hoto, looked at Cherry Blossom, etc. Normal stuff.

I’ve been itching to go back to Fuji Five Lakes Area, but I want to spend several days there rather than just a day trip to really explore the area. Especially after looking at the places that the Yuru Camp anime covers, I want to visit Lake Motosu for that 1000 yen view among other camp sites/ places around the area to get different views of Mt Fuji.

Since everything is kinda spread out, I’m thinking of going to Lake Kawaguchi first for a day and look around the area like the Chureito Pagoda. Then go rent a car to go to Lake Motosu Camp area to see that 1000 yen view. Then drive the car to other places around the Five Lakes area like Motosu city, Fumotoppara Campground, and Yamanashi city, etc. I’m thinking 3-4 days would be enough?
But would that be too much? How did you guys spend time around Fuji Five Lakes area? This would be a bit early for snow right? I have no confidence driving in snow so that would really change plans.

Forgot to ask this:
According to the Japan guide website, Fall leaves in the area is Late October to Mid November. Does this function like the Spring where you don’t want to go too early or too late? If I am really going for the colorful forest with the Mountain and the lake kind of photos, I should probably go around Early November?
