I think FamilyMart wins for my favorite iced latte because they have the cinnamon sugar and it’s not as watery as Ministop, but Ministop’s hot latte is similar to shitty American convenience store coffee so I love it for the nostalgia. Lawson is HORRIBLE in my opinion and I am not a coffee snob by any means. 7-Eleven is underwhelming and forgettable for me.
How do y’all feel?

My take: If you put cinnamon and sugar in your coffee you are not drinking coffee anymore. No matter what country you are in.
I am grateful for konbini coffee,
I also like FamilyMart the most!
I honestly drink it so rarely that I always forget which one I hate the least.
I did like McDonald’s coffee the most a few years back, but I had it again a couple of years ago, and it tasted like dirt.
I’m not sure if the biggest factor is the store, the condition of the machine or which conbini/fast food chain.
Recently I rather take the canned/bottled coffee, because even if it doesn’t taste great, at least the taste is consistent.
The 7-Eleven Columbia blue cup is super good and I ususally grab one on the weekend in addition to making my own coffee.
If you’re really into coffee Kaldi has great coffee you can buy in bean form or have grinded for you. I’ve been using a V60 with a grinder and it’s amazing and not really that expensive either. 200g is about 800 yen or so.
Cant speak for Japan, but for posterity-sakes I’ll chime in. In China, familymart all the way. Great selection, mocha isnt bad. Their Irish coffee is awesome( not sure the blend, but they add in Jameson whiskey) . Lawson sucks ass.. Just like their food.
Get good deals on beer occasionally though, still never beats familymart deals though.. And 7-11 whenever I stop through Shanghai , is as usual, utter shit. Just like back home.
喜士多 is alright, varies between locations. Some offer very nice coffee abd food, some are really run down and understocked. Kedi (wont bother with the hanzi, there are different knock offs. Same name, different characters) is the worst among all of them.
What do you mean by coffee? Iced, hot, black, latte? They all are different
7/11 black coffee is the best imo, great flavour and not acid tasting
Lawson’s Double Espresso Latte
I haven’t tried MiniStop or NewDays (I intend to try all the combinis for their coffee), but so far FamilyMart is definitely the best one, or borrowing what someone said in the comments, the least hateful one. Someone also said that 7 Eleven’s premium Columbia blend is good, which I wholeheartedly disagree with, I can’t make out the difference between it and their regular blend.
Edit: for reference, always drink black with creamer
If we’re talking about the actual coffee itself familymart almost always tastes burnt. That might make it taste better or different with milk and sugar but the coffee itself is pretty bad. 7-11 is probably the best for me as just black coffee but I see why it would seem forgettable mixed with something since it’s the most mild.
I haven’t lived in Japan for several years but I used to always go to Family Mart for an iced coffee and some chicken lol
I second FamilyMart. They do a decent approximation of a latte for the price. I’m not going to sit down and savor it, but if I’m out walking on a cold day it’s always a good companion.
