Softbank hikari with buffalo router

Hi JL,

I am planning to convert my Softbank Air to Softbank Hikari.

Anyone using Softbank Hikari with Buffalo WSR-3200AX4S-BK ([https://biccamera.rakuten.co.jp/item/4981254056691/?scid=af\_pc\_etc&sc2id=af\_109\_1\_10000815](https://biccamera.rakuten.co.jp/item/4981254056691/?scid=af_pc_etc&sc2id=af_109_1_10000815))?

(or) Any suggestion in and around 10,000 Yen would be welcome.

Note: I realized my house has KDDI installed by the previous tenant after making the contract with Softbank, and the installation date is scheduled on Dec 20th. I am considering whether to go with Softbank Hikari or AU Hikari (assuming I can cancel). Any suggestion on this is also welcome.

Thank you

  1. Softbank requires renting their own custom router if you want to have high-speed (not PPPoE based) internet: https://www.softbank.jp/internet/option/bbunit/

This is an additional 500 yen/month fee which I think goes away under some conditions (like you have softbank mobile contract or something, or maybe yahoo premium anyway, its somewhere in their pricing lists). Without that device, any domestic router/wifi access point (including the one you have) will work, but you’ll be missing higher possible speeds. You can read about this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/wiki/internet

can’t comment on auå…‰ as I’ve not used it or know anyone that does.
