2. Weird that NYT frequently pushes for these things to be a competition. It’s not a zero-sum game, all countries can benefit from one another. A person with experience working in both Japan and Europe may offer excellent expertise when they end up working in the States and vice versa.

   Some places (like Europe and Japan) may not offer as high salaries as, say, San Francisco, but their cost of living is far lower and the benefits of universal healthcare are paramount
