International->Domestic transfer – Narita or Haneda?

My folks are coming to visit in the spring and just found out that their direct flight from LAX to KIX has been canceled. Are Narita and Haneda both pretty quick on immigration/customs now, and is one more convenient than the other for international->domestic transfer?

  1. If you’re travelling within the same airline alliance/partners, NRT will be an easier transfer (same terminal). The HND international is seperate from the two domestic terminals, and require a bus or train connection.

  2. If your just using it as a transfer, both are pretty much the same for customs/immigration in my experience on flights this year.

  3. What you want to avoid is them having to take a bus across the city to transfer between the two airports.

On the Kansai side of things, you want to consider if you would sooner have them fly into KIX or into Itami. Depends on where you live and if you’ll be picking them up by train or by car. There are not so many domestic flights from Narita so your options might be a bit limited for the domestic connection.
