Gu vs. Uniqlo peacoats?

Anyone have experience with their peacoats? Gu peacoats are significantly cheaper, but are polyester whereas Uniqlo is double the price, but is a wool blend. I’m from LA and it never gets so cold that I need a legit 100% wool coat, so I’m looking for something more for fashion and some modest warmth. Is Uniqlo’s coat worth the cost?

  1. GU is pretty bad quality. Buy the Uniqlo one and if it’s a classic style you’ll get some years of wear out of it. Coats are something you should pay more for and keep for many years.

  2. GU is basically just Uniqlo but with half the price and half the quality (geared towards high school and college students).

  3. GU products are a cheaper version of Uniqlo, they are part of the same company, “Fast Retailing”. It’s like comparing Old Navy and Gap.

  4. If you’re willing to spend a little more for a coat that will last years, check out Beams’ selection

  5. The question of price comes down to: How much is it worth for you? The GU one will most likely keep you as warm as the Uniqlo one, because peacoats essentially are a top layer to help deeper layers. But the GU one might not last as long as the Uniqlo one.

btw, you can find peacoats aplenty at second hand stores. There was a boom in fashion 4-6 years ago, now not as much in, so there’s plenty hanging around for cheap.
